PRINZ EUGEN
German
heavy cruiser model
The design of the Prinz Eugen
was ahead of its time. The propulsion system
consisting of three sets of four boilers and three
three-stage geared turbines operated at 450°C and 73
bar steam pressure. The quality of the
artillery and of the fire control systems has never
been surpassed to date. The German quality of
this ship resulted in her survival of two atomic
bombs tests in Bikini Atoll in July 1946.
The Prinz Eugen was the third and
last heavy cruiser commissioned by the Kriegsmarine.
She became famous on her first war mission in May
1941 with the Bismarck. During this Atlantic
sortie, the two German ships sunk the mighty Hood
and damaged the Prince of Wales.
The Prinz Eugen's finest hour came when her shells
held back advancing Red Armies, allowing a mass
German exodus from the Baltic. With this task, the
Prinz Eugen performed its longest mission--from 20th
August 1944 to 8th April 1945.
The Prinz later
capsized on December 22, 1946 because of a leak when
being towed to Kwajalein Atoll.
This Prinz Eugen model
has the following qualities:
-
Plank-on-frame, hollow hull construction (very
important), weighing
less than 15 lbs (A solid hull of this model
would be over 50 lbs, requiring 2 people to
handle and a fortified table to accommodate.)
- The hollow superstructure is comprised of many
individual thin pieces of wood glued together, not
several solid pieces of wood stacking on top one
another.
- Light rust appearance to portray a tough heavy
cruiser, not a shiny toy.
- >95% of parts are wood and metal.
49"
long x 16.5 tall x 6" wide
$4,900
S & H is $220
"FedEx came today and successfully delivered the
3 models. I setup Prinz Eugen today. You guys have
outdone yourselves again; She is an excellent model!
She somehow got small splashes of blue spilled on
her hull, I'll send pictures, I'm sure it can be
easily repaired here, I just want to be careful to
not damage, what is otherwise and amazing model.
I am so happy you put my success story on your
website still! Our lawyer told us to remove our full
names from online websites. Thank you so very much!!
We will commission two new ships from you before
Christmas... it just a hard decision to pick just 2,
for I love them all, and never thought I could get
such AMAZING custom models at such low prices.
Sincerely, Al
p.s. The Hood has been my favorite ship of all time
since I was a child. It is an honor to get the first
Hood of its class from you all."
