USS NIMITZ
USS Nimitz is a
the lead ship of a aircraft carrier class of the United
States Navy. Nimitz is now the oldest U.S.
aircraft carrier in service.
Named after Fleet Admiral Chester W.
Nimitz, the Navy's last five star admiral, the keel of
the USS Nimitz was laid June 22, 1968. Catherine Nimitz Lay,
daughter of of the late admiral, christened the aircraft
carrier May 3, 1975. President Gerald R. Ford was the
principal speaker at the commissioning ceremony.
Speaking to a crowd of 20,000, the president said in his
remarks, "Wherever the United States Ship Nimitz shows
her flag, she will be seen as we see her now—a solid
symbol of United States strength, United States
resolve—made in America and manned by Americans."
USS Nimitz is part of Carrier Strike Group Eleven (CSG-11)
with Carrier Air Wing Eleven (CVW-11) embarked, with
Nimitz as the flagship of the strike group and the home
of the commander of Destroyer Squadron 23. On
27 November 1995, Nimitz deployed to the Western
Pacific, Indian Ocean and Persian Gulf with Carrier Air
Wing Nine (CVW-9). In March 1996, it patrolled the
waters off Taiwan amid missile tests conducted by the
Chinese in the area, becoming the first American warship
to pass through the Taiwan Strait since 1976.
On
24 January 2008, the USS Nimitz aircraft carrier was deployed to the Pacific for a
"surge" deployment. On 9 February 2008, two
Russian Tu-95 'Bear' bombers overflew the carrier in the
Western Pacific. Four F/A-18C Hornets were
launched when the bombers were 500 miles away from the
US ships, and intercepted the bombers 50 miles south of
Nimitz. Two F/A-18s trailed one of the bombers,
which twice flew over the deck of the carrier at an
altitude of 2,000 feet, while the other two F/A-18s
trailed another Tu-95 circling about 50 miles (80 km)
away from the carrier. There was no
radio communication between the American and Russian
aircrafts for the entire time.
On the same
day, Russian aircraft entered Japanese airspace, which
caused the Japanese to raise protest to the Russian
ambassador in Tokyo. Again, on 5 March 2008, a
Russian bomber came within 3 to 5 nautical miles and
flew 2,000 feet above Nimitz and its battle group.
Two F/A-18 fighters intercepted the Russian aircraft and
escorted it out of the area.

very large ships.
ModelShipMaster.com is the very first company that
introduced the Joint Strike Fighter F-35s to aircraft
carriers, in April, 5, 2021.
We also pioneered the tanker drone MQ-25
Stingray which had been approved by the US Navy but not
employed on US ships yet (as of early 2021.) Sure other companies eventually will copy those but there are
many features much more difficult
for them to spot and copy.
When you compare models, always remember to look for large
photos that show small sections of the ship. It's a
world of difference.
We can
build any aircraft carriers of the Nimitz class. Premium
quality and accurate.
