RMS QUEEN OF BERMUDA

Queen of Bermuda ship

Furness Bermuda Line operated a number of fine liners on the short service from New York from 1919 to 1966, providing a reliable service throughout that period.  Some of the liners they operated were world famous, in particular Queen of Bermuda, which was known as the ‘Millionaire’s ship’

Queen of Bermuda operated until the war came, when she was taken over for military duties. She survived the war and returned to the Bermuda trade. Later in 1961 she was completely modernized and rebuilt with just one funnel. But by this time the heyday of Furness Bermuda Line was over and by 1966 the company decided to withdrawn from the New York to Bermuda run. The Queen of Bermuda was retired from service and scrapped at Faslane on the River Clyde. It was the end of a glorious era of luxury travel between New York and Bermuda.

The Queen of Bermuda is still very fondly remembered by many Americans who travelled on her.
